The last thing that James Eyre wants to do after graduating university is to go crawling back to his hateful Aunt Bella and her nasty, arrogant children while he’s getting on his feet. He applies to every job he's even remotely qualified for – and finally lands a private tutoring position high in the rural North Carolina mountains.
Thornfield Estate is like something out of a dream. A sprawling mansion on a rocky hillside, James feels like he’s landed in the lap of luxury, spending his days teaching a gifted pupil, Adele, and his evenings exploring the surrounding forest.
But when the mysterious, secretive Mr. Rochester – Adele's father and Thornfield's wealthy owner – returns home from overseas, James is faced with the most serious adventure of them all losing his heart to a man who plays deadly, dangerous games.
Eyre is a standalone, novel length retelling of Charlotte Bronte's classic book, Jane Eyre.

James Eyre finally gets the job he was after when he is hired to become a tutor for six year old Adele. He travels to Thornfield where he meets the girl’s father, the notorious Edward Rochester.Does this sound familiar? It should as this story is a modern adaptation of the classic novel.
The story has a good plot, is well written, but for me it was missing that elusive element that get you hooked into the story.
James is a great character. He is a good guy, a great teacher. Although he is young he is wiser than his age. A difficult childhood and being on his own for a long time will do that. He falls hard for Edward. As this story is told from James’s point of view we learn quite a bit about him. This is not the case for Edward. I couldn’t quite get a grip on him. He remained a shallow personality. He is rather distant towards Adele. He might have his, understandable, reasons, but I didn’t really see any changes in his attitude. What struck me as weird also that when James and Edward told the big news to Mrs. Fairfax, the housekeeper, James did do the talking. You would have expected Edward to tell it, as he is the employer.
Adele is a smart cookie with her own definite opinions and the interactions between James and Adele are great. At times she acts more like a ten year old though.
I liked the St. John Brothers. That is where the most fun and laughter was written.
Overall it was an enjoyable read.

Eyre edition by Cait Forester Romance eBooks Reviews
Having not read the original Jane Eyre, I found this to be a really good book. I think I will go and read the original book.
I love this twist on the classic, jane eyre. You managed to update and keep true to the original. Thank you for writing this book
I am a sucker for any Jane Eyre stories, so that meant I had to check this one. It had a slightly different spin, but it was still entertaining enough. It was also an easy read.
This is loosely based on the classic Jane Eyre. Aside from being m/m, it's been modernized and is now set in the States. It's been a while since I've read the original, so I'm not sure how close to the book it actually is.
I enjoyed it well enough, but there were a few niggles. Mr. Rochester has a daughter, who is supposedly 6, but acts and talks like a tween or teen. I also wish there was more background on how Adele came to be. I don't think we find out if her parents were ever married, we just know she came to live with her father when her mother died.
Other than that, I thought it was well written and engaging.
This book is the first I've read from Cait Forester, and if this is any indication of the rest for her work, it definitely won't be the last.
There was a bit of mystery, a precocious child (who would approve of that adjective), a dominant older man, and James Eyre - who is relatable, smart, and a pleasure to read.
I will happily keep my eye on new releases from this author.
his is an advanced copy review. I can't say I've read Jane Eyre, but I've seen a lot of movies. This is an interesting take on the story. If you've read Jane Eyre, or seen the movies, the book may seem a bit shallow to you because of all the details in the original story. This we have a gender swap in the main characters James instead of Jane. Now because this is a spin on Jane Eyre it reads a bit like insta-love. I don't like insta-love. It's probably not meant to be that, but it comes off that way because of how the original story was. James is a likable character. He falls in love with the Master of the house Edward, who I can't say I'm overly fond of. I like the stoic and distant types, but he's almost too distant and absent in the story for the insta-love to even play out. This is overall a good read, just not my cup of tea. I feel like it had to be longer to really make it stronger, but at the same time it was over 200 pages . Definitely worth a read.
While I enjoy books with a modern interpretation on a classic I wasn't sure what to make of this one. As you can tell by the title is an adaptation of Jane Eyre but if you are like me it's been many years since you read it. What I do remember is that many of the situations in the classic were believable because of the time period it was written but that just doesn't work for a contemporary book. A couple of times I just had to say "Really - that's how you react?" because I had a hard time believing a supposedly intelligent individual, which James was written to be, would accept the situation. There were a couple of loose ends - such as the cousin. He seemed to just be thrown in the story for drama. I also wanted both MCs thoughts as it was hard to get a good grasp of who Edward was and where is actions came from. I never did feel like he was a flesh and blood person.
While all of that doesn't sound to good, I did enjoy the book. It was a good solid couple of hours of reading as I wanted to know what was going to happen.
I was given this book as an ARC for my honest opinion.
